2005-07-01 - 5:40 p.m. So had Bridget on Wednesday..... she was drawing a scratched and bleeding moon on this old iMac.... it was creepy. Then she goes off and tells me how she likes the taste of blood! I’m getting chest pain right it was so creepy and strange. Had a little talk with her about blood, you know, don’t taste anyone’s blood and don’t let anyone taste yours. Don’t touch anyone else's blood ect... she knows about HIV and AIDS any way but I told her about HepC too. By this time I am shaking ect... I walk her home and tell Ellen about our day while Bridget is out riding her scooter. Ellen calls me a few hours later.... really upset. Bridget started talking to her about wouldn’t it be cool if there was a big sore on the Moon and you could stick a pin in it and watch the blood run out! She also said I liked blood.... Okay I am ready to vomit by now as I guard my cutting problem very highly from her. I get on the phone and leave messages with my group leader and Dr. McD. My group leader tells me that “Cutting” has now made it in to grade schools! I just about threw up and shit!! They both coached me about talking to Bridget about it. My chest pain over this didn’t really go a way till about 1:00 am! Bridget and I talked about it today.... she did not know I cut but the kids a school talk about “making themselves bleed.” Fuck, can you believe that? I told Bridget that I had a problem with it and that I don’t do it anymore. It is not a good way to handle problems I told her. I also told her that if she saw someone doing it she should walk away and go tell her teacher, that no matter what the kids say she would be helping that person by telling a teacher. My God what is this world coming too? Due to all the WASL testing kids no longer know how to be kids. Bridget got a big packed of homework to do over the summer... a BIG packet! What the hell is that! She is suppose to be playing and dinking around with her friends, not doing homework. Do you know about the exhilarated reading program? Bridget and all kids had to read 25 books in one month! I am not kidding, Bridget was in 2nd grade last year and she had to read 25 books in one month. A lot of kids couldn’t do it! Bridget has more homework then I did in High School for Christ sake.... is it a wonder our little ones are looking for relief from the stress of this kind of learning? Thank You Mr. Fucking President! Yep parents that is exactly who put this stress on our children....Bush. The teachers hate it and so do the kids and a lot of parents too. Just pay attention to your kids, check for cuts or sores that take a long time to heal ect... Teach them how to play again and enjoy summer... and don’t push them to do that packet of homework; if they don’t know it by now it won’t make much of a difference, and tell them that’s okay. Let them play and imagine instead of the alternative.
